Horse Racing in Ruidoso has a long and vibrant history. As early as the 1840s, ranchers held Rodeos and Horse Races to entertain hands and locals alike. Thus, Ruidoso contributed in a large way to what has been today termed, "The Old West."
Today, the Spirit of the Old West lives on at Ruidoso Downs Racetrack, where people from around the nation come to compete. Whether it is Quarter Horse or Thoroughbred Racing, Ruidoso Downs is the most exciting ticket in town.
At the All American Ruidoso Downs Foundation, we celebrate both the legacy of local horse racing and those who continue to make it a favorite local sport.
Horse Racing Hall of Fame
Not long ago, former Hall of Fame Inductee Carl Draper delivered yet another astounding horse. Hearts Wide Open was inducted in 2017 after literally blasting her way to the finish line and instant fame.
Every year the Ruidoso Downs Hall of Fame inducts just one Owner/Breeder, Trainer, Jockey, and Horse.
An exclusive club where only the best can boast, the Hall of Fame is also an integral part of the AARDF.
